Web Citation
Where page authors wish to have an external webpage linked in a form where the referenced material is archived as at the date seen they should consider using WebCite.
WebCite allows you to nominate pages for archiving and gives you a reference to use for the archived page. Here for instance is an archive of the Archaeopedia front page as at 29 May 2008:
http://www.webcitation.org/5YAtGPUoS
A longer way of citing it would be:
Anon. archaeopedia. 2008-05-29. URL:http://archaeopedia.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page. Accessed: 2008-05-29. (Archived by WebCite® at http://www.webcitation.org/5YAtGPUoS)
Note it does not archive embedded graphics or formatting, just the words. Go to the WebCite site to archive pages.
