"Photosynth takes your photos, mashes them together and recreates a 3D scene out of them that anyone can view and move around in.

Different than static photos and video, Photosynth allows you to explore details of places, objects, and events unlike any other media. You can’t stop video, move around and zoom in to check out the smallest details, but with Photosynth you can. And you can’t look at a photo gallery and immediately see the spatial relation between the photos, but with Photosynth you can."

This is a very useful way of showing shots of archaeological sites:

• Sites can be illustrated by way of a panorama - with some shots zoomed in for detail.

• A tour of a site can be incorporated where the camera position moves to successive locations - having wider angle shots to take in the further locations is needed.

• An investigation sequence can be accommodated where successive shots show the development of an excavation.

Photosynth has a category of archaeological sites from around the world.

Browser Restrictions

Unfortunately Photosynth is not supported by all browsers. Chrome has discontinued support. Microsoft Edge (in Windows 10) does not allow direct viewing but within the browser there is the option to open a page in Internet Explorer (click "..." in top right corner of Edge to open this option).
